This fall, Arts First is excited to launch a new installment of our Open Studio series designed specifically for adults ages 18 and older. The upcoming session will focus on the fascinating world of stop-motion filmmaking, a hands-on art form that blends creativity, storytelling, and technical skill.
Over the course of four classes, participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of stop-motion, learning how everyday objects, clay figures, or paper cutouts can be brought to life through frame-by-frame animation. Each session will guide students through key elements of the process, including storyboarding, set and character design, camera setup, and editing techniques.
What makes this series unique is its emphasis on student-led projects. While participants will receive instruction and demonstrations, the majority of class time will be devoted to developing and creating their own short stop-motion films. This approach allows students to explore their personal artistic voice, collaborate with peers, and gain confidence in both the technical and creative aspects of filmmaking.
By the end of the four-week session, each participant will have produced a completed short film that showcases their work and creativity. Whether you’re an artist looking to experiment with a new medium, a filmmaker interested in animation, or simply someone who loves storytelling, this fall’s Open Studio is a chance to learn, create, and connect in a supportive community space.
