The Arts First Middle School Filmmaking Program introduces students in grades 6–8 to the exciting world of visual storytelling, including motion picture, stop-motion, and animation. Through a series of hands-on workshops, students learn the fundamentals of filmmaking—such as scriptwriting, storyboarding, camera operation, lighting, sound, and editing—while developing and expressing their own creative voices.
Working in small production teams, participants collaborate to develop original short films from concept to final cut. Professional teaching artists guide students through every stage of the process, fostering technical skills, creative confidence, and critical thinking.
This free, inclusive program emphasizes teamwork, problem-solving, and self-expression, providing students with the tools to share their stories and perspectives. At the end of the session, families and community members are invited to a public screening to celebrate the students’ completed films and achievements.
